INVITATION TO e-TOWNHALL ON PRIMARY SCHOOL EDUCATION REVIEW

The Primary Education Review and Implementation(PERI) Committee, chaired by Senior Minister of State for Education andNational Development, Ms Grace Fu, has been set up to study ways toenhance primary education in Singapore. In particular, the PERICommittee will study in detail the following areas:
• Recommendations to rebalance the learning of content knowledge andthe development of skills and values so that our young are wellprepared for the future;
• Moving all primary schools to a single-session structure to create more space and time for holistic learning;
• Moving towards all-graduate teacher recruitment by 2015.
As part of its work, the PERI Committee has beenseeking the views of the public on the primary education review viamultiple platforms such as focus group discussions, online discussionthreads and webchats.
As part of the consultation, REACH is organising ane-Townhall webchat session, which will be chaired by Ms Grace Fu,Senior Minister of State for Education and National Development.

Any of us here know very well how our education system works? I do not want to add to the burden of our teachers and parents with my vague suggestions. To me, it is medicine, but for them, poison maybe.

意思浅浅,即不要倚老卖老,自己不在教育部工作就认为教育部应该要怎样怎样做,搞到家长和老师的压力更大。

当我看我孩子小一的华文课本时, 我有两个困惑.

1) 课本里一开始就是汉语拼音, 并且是大量的拼音教学. 我虽然认同拼音非常重要, 但我却不认同以拼音为主,华文字为副. 我觉得学华文, 应学认华文字, 经过一段时间后, 才让孩子学习汉语拼音, 好让他们可以利用汉语拼音来帮他们发音. 就好像我们学英文, 也先学认字, 才学phonics.

2) 同样的, 当我看华文课本时, 一开始我就发现课本里, 有很多很多的字. 我敢说, 如果我孩子不是读了两年幼稚园里的华文, 他可能有大多数的字不认得. 以一个小一生, 刚刚要开始学习,碰上一大堆他不认识的学习材料, 没有经过渐进的学习过程, 据我所了解, 幼稚园并不是必要的学习过程, 而且现在的幼稚园素质掺差不齐, 教的东西都不一样. 而小一的课程, 仿佛认为小一生已经从幼稚园学得基础. 这样一来, 有钱的人让孩子进很好的幼稚园, 经济不好的人送孩子进较一般的幼稚园, 进到小一, 他们不会在同一个起跑线上....


以上为个人见解, 而且只是从课本上的资料做猜测. 真实情况如何, 要等我孩子上完小一才知道.

我孩子的华文字发音在小学前已打好基础, 现在这书本里的拼音, 对她来说是额外的辅助。 但对一些讲英语环境的小学生, 这是唯一生存之道。没了拼音, 我想很难把字读出来。要是连字都念不出, 要识字更无心了。

这几天女儿跟了我几朋友的孩子接触, 几乎全是讲英语环境的。她也跟他们一起用英语。
在家她只用华语。 所以, 在外的讲英语环境, 倒是帮了她掌握双语。

孩子读PAP的幼稚园会比较占便宜. PAP的上课比较多, 尤其是华文课. 生字学得多.
